This series of “environmental” portraits explores a group of allotment-holders in a single village in the south-east of England
as they cultivate and prepare their plots between late winter and springtime.
Using a consistent composition and framing, the images reveal the diversity of the allotmenteers and their outwardly-similar plots,
as well as their somewhat “Heath Robinson-esque” methods of problem solving.
At the same time, they tell of a different world to the daily grind of commuting, employment and supermarkets.
Six of these images, presented as A3-sized digital C-type prints, were included in the CityLit Photography Course end-of-year show, London, June 2015.
